Saturday the 18th of August saw eight keen and talented Girton Tournament Of Minds teams compete at the Bendigo Regional Final in all four disciplines spanning years four to ten.
We started the day at 9am and our Junior STEM and Senior Arts teams entertained us with funny and dramatic presentations in the morning.
We then saw our Senior Social Sciences, Language Literature and STEM teams take to the stage in the middle of the day.
Finally our Junior Social Sciences and Language Literature teams presented in the afternoon, with amazingly detailed and entertaining productions.
Each team had spent the last five weeks preparing a solution to a complex problem, which they then performed as a fully scripted and costumed 10 minute skit to a panel of judges. This took a lot of planning and effort from every team member, and has helped students develop skills they will use in the upcoming State Final.
Students also participated in a team spontaneous challenge which involved them solving a problem creatively within four minutes and presenting it to a separate panel of judges.
Six of our eight teams were successful on the day, with the Junior Arts and Language Literature teams performing extremely well and earning Honours certificates.
We are very excited to be taking the six teams to La Trobe Bundoora for the State Final on the 9th of September, where they will be given a new challenge to solve in three hours.
Thank you very much to all the staff involved in TOM 2018, Mrs Maruff, Mrs Rebecchi, Mrs Peter, Mrs Williams, Mr Ruddick, Alex Nielsen (12M 2017), Michaela Hulme (12A), Mr Parry, and of course our wonderful MiC Mrs Bath. The tournament could not have been possible without all of you there to support, encourage and aid the teams to victory.
