Term Three has seen our fifth annual Performing Arts Showcase, highlighting several outstanding performances from our students throughout 2018. The audience was presented with a collection of works from a variety of subjects including Drama, Dance, Media and Theatre Studies as well as a very special preview of the Year Eight Production, ‘Guys and Dolls’.
Girton Grammar School has many fantastic, energetic and creative young people and the Performing Arts Showcase is an opportunity to celebrate their work and this year’s event was no exception. Original dance pieces, a Dr. Seuss inspired Drama solo, beautifully shot Media films and magical performances from this year’s epic Senior Production ‘Peter Pan – A Musical Adventure’ thrilled our audience.
There were four awards; Performer of the Year – for outstanding contribution and leadership within the Performing Arts, Performer of the Year Runner Up, the Distinction Award and the ‘People’s Choice Award’ which was voted by the audience.
At the end of the night, Alicia McGovern (12 Riley) won the Performer of the year and People’s Choice Award for her significant contributions in our Senior School Production including student leadership and dramatic performance as ‘Captain Hook’. She had some competition though, with Michaela Hulme (12 Aherne) in Second Place with her performance in the same production as The Storyteller. Oliver Lowther (9 Jenkin) was awarded the Performer of Distinction for his marvelous solo performance as Mr. Sneelock from the Dr. Seuss stories. It was a wonderful evening that truly showcased Girton Grammar School’s strong Performing Arts culture.
