On Wednesday March 7th Girton Grammar School took four Table Tennis teams down to MSAC in Melbourne to compete in the ICCES Secondary Schools Table Tennis competition. All players were exceptionally well presented and behaved and very ably led by the Table Tennis Captain Isaac Green (11 Aherne) and vice-Captain Abbey Saxon (11 Frew).
The senior boys team of Isaac and Xavier Green (11 Aherne) and Ethan Shepherd (10 Aherne) and the junior girls team of Olivia and Hanna Green both 7 Aherne and Annaliese Broom (9 Aherne) convincingly won every match in the round robin section and again won their finals 6-0. The junior boys team of Lachlan Woodward 9 Jones, Lasith Kulasekara 9 Jones and Aidan Clemens 8 Millward had several close matches in the round robin section and just managed to get into the final on points from two other teams but then convincingly won the final also 6-0. The senior girls team comprising Abbey Saxon, Kate Douglas (11 Frew) and Arunika Madina (10 Jenkin) went through their round robin matches without losing a single game but unfortunately were unable to win the final.
The final points for the ICCES Table Tennis Shield were Girton Grammar School 38 points out of a possible maximum of 40 points convincingly winning the Table Tennis Shield for Girton Grammar School. To give an indication of the size of the win by the Girton Table Tennis team, the next highest scoring school scored 24 points.
A special thank you to Mr Paul Green for coaching of the Table Tennis Co-Curricular players this year and the last four years. The standard has improved each year and we now have a program and a standard of play of which we can be very proud.
