Girton Volleyball Club Presentation 2018

This year Girton Volleyball had 65 students and entered 8 teams for Bendigo Volleyball competition for Semester 1

The U15 Girls Team (Girton Tigers) was made up of Year 7 students competing in their first season ever. They had an outstanding season, really improving on their overall skill level and bonding as a team. In Grand Final, they were defeated in straight sets, but certainly made the opposition team work hard for their victory.

The U17 Girls Team (Girton Diamonds) played an amazing game to watch, going down to the 5th set to secure the victory.

Semester 2 has entered 9 teams in the competition and is about to start finals so we wish all the teams the best of luck

Girton Volleyball has introduced a perpetual trophy called the “Brewin & McWaters Club Person of The Year” This award will be presented to the person who has shown dedication, commitment and made a significant contribution to Girton Volleyball Club.

This year’s recipient was awarded to Lucia Bowles who has shown a dedication with her leadership skills and coaching abilities. She is a role model for our younger upcoming Volleyball players, she is a fine example of what the Girton Volleyball Club represents, she is not only a player who has represented the school at a state and national level but also supports captains, MiC’s, managers and fellow students with all things Volleyball.

She does all this without recognition congratulations Lucia well deserved.

As a Volleyball personality at Girton Mr Rick McWaters is the top of the list he has had a significant impact on the success of Girton Volleyball over the years. He has coached Girton teams in the domestic competition from 1993 – 2018 and accomplished many things that people only dream about. He represented Australia in senior men’s volleyball, attended the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney as the supervisor of the International volleyball referees and was the coach of the Victorian U/19 Boys volleyball team in 2011 and 2012, just to name a few.

Many people join this club because of his encouraging and positive nature and will be deeply missed. His sense of humour and supportive and constructive feedback improves all athletes and is why Girton has had so much success.

In recognition of his achievements the Girton Volleyball Club thanked him for his outstanding contribution to the volleyball community with a special award that we are sure will take pride of place in his home.

Thank you Rick for all you have done for Volleyball
